About AbbyBank in Gresham
AbbyBank is proud to be located in the Village of Gresham, Wisconsin located along the Red River in Shawano County since 2019. AbbyBank established a branch in Gresham in the fall of 2019 from an acquisition transition with State Bank, increasing our total locations to seven by adding two new locations to our footprint, one of which is our branch conveniently located in the Village of Gresham, on Main Street, also known as Highway G. This location features one drive-thru lane with a drive-up ATM and houses less than 10 employees. Renovations to the building were recently completed in November 2021 and with those renovations, the building is now home to the Village of Gresham as well.
With the construction of the Old Military Road from Fort Howard in Green Bay, WI to Fort Wilkins near Copper Harbor, MI completed in the 1870s, the area that is now known as the Village of Gresham was first settled because the road was also a means of transportation for the settlers, trappers, hunters, explorers, and loggers to northern Wisconsin. The community was named after Walter Q. Gresham, who was Postmaster General in 1883 when the post office was applied for. Gresham was first incorporated as a village municipality in 1908, the same year the State Bank of Gresham was started, when it had a population of 330. Today, the Village of Gresham has a population of almost 600 people and is home the Gresham School District and various recreational activities including fishing, boating, hiking, swimming, camping, sledding, skiing, and an athletic park. One aspect of Gresham that makes it unique is that the municipality utilizes the power of the Red River through its hydro-plant that generates 22% of its own electrical power to the Village. Gresham is a community rich in heritage, from the Gresham Depot Museum, an old railroad depot that now operates as a museum in its current location that is open on Saturday afternoons in the summer, to the Gresham Novitiate, an old abandoned limestone mansion overlooking Freeman Falls (Monastery Falls) on the Red River that is well known in the area for its history as originally being built as a residence, then later donated as a monastery for many years and a few years after it was left behind, it was used as a month-long standoff site in early 1975 by an armed group called the Menominee Warrior Society before the property was severely damaged in a fire later that same year, but today the mansion and property has hopes of being restored into something special for the community.
